The Great Sabbatical: Everyday can be Saturday

Walking unto the famous Grand Anse beach in Grenada, a familiar gentleman said to me, “When I grow up, I want to be like you.”  Those are the words directed towards me by acquaintances and casual people in conversation. To interpret, it means that there is a desire to live like me, based on whatContinue reading “The Great Sabbatical: Everyday can be Saturday”

My first trip post Covid-19; here is what has changed and what has remained the same.

Mission accomplished!!  Executed!!  I was able to purchase a plane ticket and board a plane post covid-19 pandemic.  I was finally on my way home, to Grenada.  The first flight I booked was cancelled by the airlines, with a simple explanation; “we are no longer flying on that day”.  So, on August 31st 2021, IContinue reading “My first trip post Covid-19; here is what has changed and what has remained the same.”

Covid-19 is not making a guest appearance; it is the main act.

Eighteen months ago, the world was thrown into a tailspin; travelling ceased, employees worked from home, children learnt at home, Zoom became popular, and toilet paper became a grocery star.  All these changes were the result of the Covid-19 pandemic as it was later declared. Many of us had plans and dreams which were dashedContinue reading “Covid-19 is not making a guest appearance; it is the main act.”

Tesla: How Kitt came to Life.

Growing up on the Caribbean island of Grenada, Saturday afternoons were anticipated with great joy.  It was the day when we could watch shows on the lone television station, having to focus on doing homework during the week.  Today, binge watching is several episodes of the same show but when I was growing up, itContinue reading “Tesla: How Kitt came to Life.”

Covid-19: How can I not say thanks?

I am not a celebrant of most of these commercialized seasons: Valentines, Thanksgiving, Halloween, which in my opinion are simply aimed at  making money for retailers.  However, since we have just ended the thanking season, I thought I should ponder on what else I should be thankful for, in addition life, family, health and jobs. Continue reading “Covid-19: How can I not say thanks?”

Amazon Go Grocery; Make New Friends, Keep the Old.

A few weeks ago, I was as Americans would say, ‘super excited’ to shop for the first time at the newly opened Amazon Go store near me.  I felt like a child who was anxiously awaiting the reopening of school or impatiently waiting to open Christmas presents.  With only my cellphone in hand and nothingContinue reading “Amazon Go Grocery; Make New Friends, Keep the Old.”

Retail Employment; Let it be your last resort

Forty-hour weeks have a totally different meaning in the retail industry.  I started out as a closer at a hypermarket finishing at eleven pm.  The department I worked in meant that I did everything from watering plants in the garden center, to duplicating keys, to simply keeping the shelves organized.  I eventually became cashier trainedContinue reading “Retail Employment; Let it be your last resort”

Covid 19; Socially Distanced for Ninety-Five Days.

March 12th, 2020 was the last day I entered my brother’s home. I went by to help with the children since their grandparents had a doctor’s appointment.  I played with them and fed them, not realizing that I would not be able to touch them for more than three months. My brother and his wifeContinue reading “Covid 19; Socially Distanced for Ninety-Five Days.”

Coronavirus: Is there a cleaner clean for the nether region?

I am now down to my final pack of toilet paper which I purchased in early January 2020.  It was customary for me to buy toilet paper when they are on special or with the use of coupons.  The bottom line is that I never pay regular prices for toilet paper.  With the arrival ofContinue reading “Coronavirus: Is there a cleaner clean for the nether region?”
